Simply Living

May 10, 2016

Choosing to follow God’s lead and not our own is hard. It requires faith and trust even when we don’t have complete understanding. Even when the world laughs and says that what we’re doing isn’t normal.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

    and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways submit to him,

    and he will make your paths straight.

Romans 12:2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is - his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Our love story began last summer. From the start, nothing was “normal.” We didn’t date for years before we got engaged, we didn’t have a year long engagement, we didn’t have just one wedding ceremony… we had two! And we didn’t move into a house with stainless steel appliances.

There’s this quote that I’ve always loved from Mother Theresa:

“Live simply so others may simply live.”

What a challenge. Nathan and I have chosen to follow God’s plans for us and according to His timeline. We decided to serve where he wants us to serve while we strive to live simply. At the beginning of our marriage, God led us to live in Nathan's hometown, Georgetown, KY. After months of looking at potential places to live, we finally felt led to one...

For the last few months Nathan and I have lived in an apartment inside his parent's funeral home (insert all “My Girl” references here). Never in a million years did I think that I would ever live in a funeral home! But it’s absolutely perfect. I’m so grateful that Nathan and I have been able to begin our journey as husband and wife here.

So we're continuing our quest of simply living; of living out His word and His will for our lives all the way to Guatemala. Relocating won't be easy, but we’re following where God leads. He’s keeping us at a place of vulnerability and a little discomfort, to make us bold and bright for His glory.

Thank you for all of the kind words and prayers! We greatly appreciate each of you!
